About Biblical Fasting

A few notes:

  • During Lent, Sundays are days of celebration. And thus, the Lenten fasts are not observed; we get a foretaste of the coming Easter celebration!

  • If you are new to biblical fasting, it’s critical to take some time to utilize the resources and Practical Guide below to learn more about this spiritual discipline before beginning. The most important thing about the practice of fasting is doing it for a biblical purpose or else it simply becomes about something to endure. The other temptation is to be motivated more to fast for health benefits, but a fasting diet is very different from a biblical fast - the former focuses on us, the latter focuses on God.

  • If you have struggled with an eating disorder or have a medical condition, you should always consult your physician and a spiritual mentor before beginning a food fast. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or nursing, or are recovering from illness, you can still practice fasting. Consider what things you run to most often for comfort, pleasure and entertainment and now in their absence, run to Jesus.
